Considered design, from concept to completion

TWIN FINS
BLUEYS BEACH
Originally a two-storey fibro beach shack with an open carport below, the project was initially considered for a major renovation or complete rebuild.
Through the design process, it became clear that the value of the home lay in its simplicity and the lifestyle it supported. The brief shifted to retain this character and avoid overdevelopment of the site.
The area beneath the house was enclosed to create a new living space, office, and bathroom, while a north-facing deck was introduced to provide shelter from prevailing easterly winds. A separate surfboard storage and outdoor shower area was carefully integrated within the landscape, supporting the everyday coastal use of the home.
LITTLE UMI
BOOMERANG BEACH
An existing weatherboard dwelling with strong underlying design elements, requiring a comprehensive internal rework to improve layout and functionality.
The project involved a full reconfiguration of the internal planning, including new bedrooms at the lower level, removal of an upper-level room to open up the main living space, relocation of the kitchen, and the introduction of a new internal staircase to better connect both floors.
Externally, a new rear deck was added overlooking the previously underutilised backyard, alongside an outdoor entertaining area centred around an off-form concrete bench seat and fire pit.
The overall layout and functionality were developed through the design process, and further elevated by the clients’ strong design input, particularly in the interior finishes and material selections.
RED GUM
BOOMERANG BEACH
A detached dual occupancy project involving the construction of two dwellings and subdivision of the site.
The narrow and steep nature of the land required careful planning to ensure both dwellings could sit comfortably on the site without impacting one another, while maintaining functionality, privacy, and access.
A consistent design language was carried across both buildings, allowing them to read as a cohesive pair. Lightweight sheet cladding and battens reference the traditional fibro beach shacks of the area, while being refined through sharper detailing and finishes. Heavier concrete block elements ground the buildings and connect them to the site.
Extensive landscape planting has been used to soften the built form and integrate the dwellings into the surrounding environment.
